5 years after the release of the Streetfighter 1098, Ducati released the Streetfighter V45 to take over. An outing that should be emulated given the technical sheet of this little powerhouse. On the program, 203 horsepower provided by a four-cylinder L engine, a flexible suspension as well as a careful finish.
Design: 4.5/5
The V4 streetfighter will seduce you at first glance, and for good reason! Ducati did not want to leave anything to chance, so much so that the Italian manufacturer hired the services of a French designer. He would have been particularly inspired by the face of the Joker to design this motorcycle. You will find this inspiration on its front with its imposing radiator which recalls the smile of the eternal enemy of the black knight.
Despite this ounce of fantasy, we should not believe that this roadster is less elegant. Its graceful lines will appeal to speed enthusiasts who wish to acquire a beautiful frame. Moreover, the designers have done everything possible to preserve its aerodynamics. In addition to the radiator, air intakes have been scattered here and there to effectively cool its four-cylinder engine. You will also appreciate the quality of the materials chosen by the manufacturer.
That said, the manufacturer’s aesthetic choices hide a real desire to optimize the performance of the new streetfighter. The spoilers which seem to be there to refine its look also improve handling. These “accessories” offer 28 kg of additional support when you exceed 265 km/h. These fins will also be useful at moderate speeds. An effectiveness proven by the motorcycles of the Ducati GP line.
Maneuverability: 4/5
The previous version of the SF was mainly criticized for its maneuverability due to poorly controlled power. This new model intends to restore the image of the Streetfighter series. Those who have had the chance to test this motorcycle on the circuit will tell you so. This model is a real pleasure to drive. The only downside is that you will keep your legs slightly bent, whatever the speed at which you ride.
The handlebars have also been designed to be as ergonomic as possible. It is possible to tilt it forward or backward as desired. By adjusting its position as best as possible, drivers will be able to relieve their wrists during long journeys. The control buttons have also been conveniently placed on the handlebars to be easily accessible. Which makes driving all the more enjoyable.
However, we regret that the dashboard does not have any gauge for the fuel level. A mechanism will notify you when the tank begins to run low. Although this model is not equipped with a saddle air-conditioned, the driver will not feel the heat emitted by this beast. However, this saddle will not be as comfortable for the passenger since it is less well padded.
Motorization: 5/5
The Streetfighter V4S borrows its “L” four-cylinder engine from the Panigale V4. However, the engineers have relieved this engine of a few horses to give it better torque. Everything can reach 13,0000 rpm for a maximum speed of 300 km/h according to the manufacturer. Performances which will earn it certain success among speed enthusiasts. However, the engineers have also taken all measures to grant it maximum versatility.
Below 7,500 revs, this is the perfect motorcycle for strolling around town. The beast appears docile and becomes easily maneuverable, despite a particularly limited turning radius. However, the beast shows its fangs as soon as you pass the 7,500 rev mark and its roars will be a sweet melody to your ears. However, be careful when accelerating, especially as this bike reacts like clockwork.
The happy owners of this motorcycle will be able to choose between several maps. The “sport” profile will be ideal for taking advantage of everything this model has to offer. However, his nervousness will be difficult to manage for novices. As such, the Streetfighter seems much more suited to experienced motorcyclists. Thrill seekers will have difficulty keeping their cool.
Behavior: 5/5
It must be admitted that the previous streetfighter did not enjoy an excellent reputation. It is known to be quite steep on the roads. A defect that Ducati engineers took care to resolve. However, the designers were not driven by a desire to innovate. Indeed, this model does not only borrow the engine from the Panigale, it has practically the same suspension. The result is that the driving sensations become closer.
Once in the saddle, drivers will be able to navigate the turns with ease. The suspension and the various electronic assistance modules respond surprisingly well. Whether you take it easy or push it to its limits, it’s a real pleasure to drive. Furthermore, although protections are absent, theABS ensures your safety. In these conditions, it is difficult not to make the comparison with the Panigale.
Despite the safety options they include, this motorcycle is not suitable for highway travel. Too nervous, it could expose novice motorcyclists to unnecessary risks. It’s hard not to give in to the call of the power that lies dormant in the bowels of this beast. Although the braking system responds perfectly, it is better to exercise caution.
Equipment: 4.5/5
The V4S streetfighter is naturally better equipped than the classic model in terms of accessories. Apart from its Öhlins electronic suspensions, this version is equipped with Marchesini aluminum rims. In addition, this example displays 2 kg less on the scale. Features that will still cost you €3,000 more. An expense that is clearly worth it given the comfort and performance gain that can be obtained from it.
The SF also has many other great amenities. Ducati has also equipped this motorcycle with several patented systems. These include the Ducati Slide Control, the Ducati wheelie Control EVO or the Ducati Traction control EVO 2 designed to help you tame the beast. As mentioned previously, these systems fulfill their role perfectly to allow you to spend pleasant moments in the saddle of this exceptional mount.
That said, although this roadster already has quality components, you can consider equipping it with an Akrapovic titanium line. This will notably allow you to gain a few additional horses. By paying €4,872, you will gain 12 horsepower by offloading 5.5 kg from the bike. However, be aware that this modification could well cost you the approval of the machine. If you have a more modest budget, consider looking at a pair of carbon fins for better handling.
Verdict: an unreasonably powerful sports car
The Streetfighter V4 S seems to have all the qualities to become Ducati’s standard bearer. It should be hugely successful among thrill-seekers thanks to this unique configuration. However, this sports motorcycle is not within everyone’s reach with a price of around €23,000. Those who are lucky enough to acquire it will be able to exploit its full potential. It would be a shame to only drive it on the road. To discover the power hidden within it, plan a few tests on a circuit associated with Race mapping. Driving sessions that promise to be memorable, but which, as you might expect, require careful preparation. However, this powerful beast will reward your efforts by offering you several minutes full of sensations.
