Mastervac is one of the different components of a car’s braking system. Also called a brake booster, this cylindrical black box-shaped part serves to amplify friction. Its auxiliary force effectively slows or stops the vehicle.
A mastervac is located between the crankset and the brakes
Placed between the middle crankset and the rest of the braking component, the role of the mastervac is to multiply the power of friction. This part allows the driver to control their vehicle effortlessly. Without this component, he would have to press with all his strength to be able to barely slow down the car going at high speed. Its presence is essential on cars of all sizes, in this case models weighing more than one tonne.
A room made up of two pressurized compartments
The operation of a mastervac is based on a pressure system composed of two closed chambers. A membrane located in the middle makes it possible to manage the quantity of gas inside each of them. This emanation comes from engine depression or a vacuum pump. When the driver presses the pedals, the pressurized air is pushed back to the engine side. At the same time, the movement of the diaphragm activates a central axis connected to the master cylinder and the calipers which hold the discs.
The system is effective from the slightest press on the brake
When the driver removes his foot from the brake pedal, the pressure inside the mastervac drops. The gas is discharged through the same inlet port. At the same time, a spring returns the diaphragm to its initial position. This prevents parts such as the piston and air filter from being put under greater strain. However, older cars have alternative technology. They have a fully mechanical brake booster with powerful springs.
Some differences between mastervac and ABS
A mastervac provides auxiliary force for effortless braking. A single press can immobilize a car weighing more than two tonnes traveling at 50kmh. For its part, ABS prevents the tires from locking up completely during a pedal stroke. One increases the effectiveness of the brakes while the other makes them less aggressive in the event of sudden pressure. Appearing at distant times, the two assistance technologies are complementary and contribute to security.
A part to replace before complete wear
