The health crisis and the imminent arrival of penalty 2021 did not prevent Porsche from refining its future models. In addition to developing the new 911 Turbo, its engineers are also working on the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS. This super sports car, which has already been seen on the roads of Sweden, returned to the tracks a few weeks ago. An opportunity to discover the latest changes made by Porsche.
Test on the Nurburgring circuit: changes that do not go unnoticed
The whole world was able to discover a first prototype of the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS in June. Indeed, the manufacturer invited a few hand-picked personalities to attend a first test on the snowy roads of northern Sweden.
On this occasion, we noticed that Porsche had opted for central locking wheels. A system that has never been fitted on previous iterations of the Porsche Cayman. At the same time, it was equipped with a fairly massive rear wing as well as air intakes at the rear windows.
Against all expectations, the latest videos of the Cayman GT4 RS on the Nürburgring tracks show that the engineers made a point of making some changes, notably by adding a swan-neck rear wing. The manufacturer is also announcing some improvements to the engine.
The 718 Cayman GT4 RS: a powerful beast?
So far, speculation is rife regarding the engine of this new coupe. However, what is certain is that Porsche’s new super sports car will be equipped with a 4-liter flat-six. With its new NACA air intake, this car should develop more than 410 horsepower without supercharging. Some of our colleagues attest that this power should reach 500 hp. However, such a configuration would overshadow the 911 GT3, which benefits from a better balanced weight. Concerning the gearbox, this new version of the Cayman should feature a PDK gearbox instead of a 6-speed manual gearbox like the GT4.
In terms of shock absorbers, this new model should offer better than the GT4. As a reminder, the latter already made it possible to adjust the ride height thanks to an ingenious system. For the moment, no date has been communicated for the release of the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS. However, everyone agrees that it should be marketed at the end of 2020 and beginning of 2021.
